Healthcare Administrator Job Description

A healthcare administrator or a healthcare executive is a person who is responsible for the smooth day-to-day working of a medical facility. He plans, directs, synchronize and supervise when it comes to the delivery of healthcare services. Depending upon his interest and area of expertise, he may choose to manage a specific department or the entire healthcare facility. He may also assist one or more physicians in smooth operation of their practice.

Job Description

A healthcare executive is responsible for the smooth functioning of the medical facility and the related branches. The job responsibilities include

• He is the point of contact among the governing board, department heads and medical staff and thus plays a major role in communicating the messages and ensuring a smooth flow of information and necessities among them.
• Acts as a guide that aids coordination among different departments
• He hires the doctors, nurses, assistant administrators and interns as per the short and long term planning and needs
• He coordinate and conduct employee evaluation

Education Requirements

In order to pursue a career in healthcare administration, you need to have at least a bachelor’s degree along with minimum five years of working experience in a medicine facility. In case you are looking for better job prospects, higher salary and better growth, a master’s degree in Business administration, health services administration, health services or public services administration also helps. The reason for this is that the person needs to have dual knowledge about the working of the administration facility as well as management skills.

The higher degree also helps in reaching the higher managerial level with experience including the CEO. The salary depends on a number of different factors; however, the range is from $60,000 to $140,000 per annum.
